Greek Cuisine
Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

Really love this place and can't believe it took us so long to find it. A hipster-free, hidden gem. Most breakfasts come with the option of toast, pancakes or FRENCH TOAST. Uh... yes please! The french toast option should be available everywhere. Always. With everything. The service has always been friendly but not overly so. It's family friendly and the prices reasonable. A solid choice on a sunday morning (Open sundays!)

This is a great place for breakfast. The portions are good for the price. I got the beef tekki breakfast plate. It was a little bit more beef than I needed and it would've been better if it was in thin strips instead of a thick Patty. It was tasty though and the hashbrowns were cooked perfectly. French toast that came with it was yummy too.

Its a taste of Greek food and a mix of comfort food at the same time. I also get the opportunity to try new things and the staff is very friendly. The best breakfast and lunch around!

THE most friendly staff of any restaurant I have ever eaten at! Of course, you go to a restaurant for the food...which was amazing, but I was completely taken aback at the super awesome atmosphere and friendly staff. ...Did I mention the food was AMAZING?!?

This is a pretty standard breakfast joint. I find it more enjoyable than the low end chain restaurants which isn't the hardest feat. However their Olympian is tasty and a great deal. I would just forward that the cheese put on top isn't very good quality and could probably be omitted to improve it. I enjoy their coffee a lot for being pot coffee. Pricing is very reasonable. I would say this rating is more on a 3.5 level but since I don't have that option I went on the lower end because I have definitely had better.

My family and I love this place! We are there at least once a week. The lemon rice soup is wonderful.

This place is clean, and friendly, and the food is amazing. I had some of the best meatloaf with eggs this morning for breakfast. I also appreciate family run businesses that are actually run like a business. Best of both worlds.

Went here for the first time today and it did not disappoint! This place does everything right. Hostess and server were very friendly and attentive. I had the Greek omelette with gyro meat, tomatoes and topped with feta cheese. Came with hash browns and I chose French toast as my side ... so good. The coffee was fresh and only $1.49 per cup! Most places are charging over 2 bucks. Husband had the meat loaf and eggs. Weird combo, but it was delicious and it worked. The decor was really nice and clean. Can't wait to try something from the lunch menu. No dinner, they close at 3. Waited about 10 minutes for a table but well worth it!

This is our first visit. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, and my husband ordered Dolmathes. My husband's meal came with soup or salad; he chose the soup: a rice, chicken lemon soup, which was delicious and I would recommend it if you like greek food. The dolmathas were good, according to my husband; but it was a very large portion and could easily be shared. My breakfast sandwich wasn't any better than what can be found in other restaurants, but the bread was truly toasted and the hashbrowns were perfect.

I had the beeftaki and a bacon waffle. Bacon fans delight, this waffle is covered and filled with bacon but it's best split between two people. The beeftaki gets my full recommendation. It is served with a tzaziki sauce and makes a surprisingly satisfying breakfast. The full menu is offered from open to close and they have all you can eat spaghetti every day!

All the hype must have gotten to my wife as she's been wanting to return here for most of the year. When we did finally get here, somewhat removed from my previous review, I did, as I usually do on returns and paid close attention to whether or not the things I mentioned in my previous review still held. They do, for the most part. The carpet is filthy and while I like all the interesting stuff to look at along the walls, the dimness of this place (I would never consider eating here on a stormy day, unless I had a sudden hankerin' to eat by flashlight) is still quite notable. It is excessive enough that it detracts from comfort. As to the food, pancakes were decent (served hot), my waffle was served at room temperature, my wife's skillet, that she liked, was also served hot, but had a very off-flavor to me, my breakfast featured the beefteki, which was far and away the worst thing I've ever been served for breakfast and maybe overall for the last probably 25 - 30 years and was entirely inedible. Hashbrowns were mediocre and the over-medium eggs I was served was undercooked, even for over-easy. They also serve Lipton...still. Prices are still pretty cheap. The exterior of the building is still cool and the wait staff and hostess were incredibly nice, warm, friendly and somewhat helpful, which is a huge upgrade from last time. This time, however, the food was not only worse, but notably worse and I see the big zero in terms of percentage chances that I will ever return.

I've passed this place at least 60 times in the last year. Well today I finally stopped. Good for me. I had the meatloaf and eggs. Good call. I ordered eggs poached medium and toast lightly toasted and that's exactly what I got. The $1.49 coffee was the kicker. In a word delicious and the service was excellent. I'll definitely be going back.

We have been having family breakfast here on Sunday's for the past 6 months or so. We have never had a bad experience. We usually have a group of 6-12 people and the Olympian always accomodates us! The food is great and the protion sizes are nice. I usually order the greek omelet with a side of fruit. The omelet is such a nice portion size, I am never able to finish. The pancakes are always light and fluffy and so satisfying! Also, try their BLT or club sandwich! The staff is fabulous!

The combination of Mediterranean & breakfast could be dangerous but Olympian combines them in delicious ways! Items like omelette who gyro and feta or pumpkin pancakes were a surprise to me and my girlfriend. We both were so impressed the 1st thing we said after the 1st bites were.. We have to write a review! Polite staff and nice scenery. Recommended.

Best greek food in Salt Lake City! Maria and Tony treat us like family every time!

There is an amazing Greek restaurant in Baker, California, where we stop whenever we make the drive from Southern California to Salt Lake. I dream of it's tasty Greek food, so every time I've driven by The Olympian, I make a mental note to try it one day. It appears to be a fast food restaurant outside with the white and bright blue exterior paint, but I was surprised to step inside and find it was a somewhat cozy, charming sit-down restaurant. The interior decor has an almost Italian flair, but it is definitely homey. I love love stuffed grape leaves, so I ordered their Dolmathes entree, which is a huge portion! It started with a house salad, that was your basic iceberg/shredded carrot/stale crouton salad, although the red Greek dressing is quite good. But then came the six stuffed grape leaves, about 9 Kalamata olives, a few pieces of pita bread, generous portions of both feta and tzatzki sauce and a big scoop of basmati rice. The grape leaves were large and appeared to be handmade by a Greek grandma. And I certainly had enough of everything leftover for lunch today! And it came with a little piece of EXCELLENT baklava! Sweet end to a wonderful meal!! I enjoyed patronizing this little business, as the owner was extremely pleasant when she sat us and then as we were paying. Service was attentive. Prices fair. No complaints here!

It's very basic, reliable food. I enjoy coming here for breakfast on the weekends. The staff is very friendly. It's good for kids.

I still need to thoroughly explore this restaurant especially since I came here when I wasn't very hungry and got just their soup. The soup was good, but after seeing what my friends had made me get hungrier and hungrier. I knew I should have gotten a whole meal even though my stomach said "Not hungry," and my brain said "Yes, yes you are hungry." This constant battle... Their food and the atmosphere just spoke "comforting" and "simply Greek." I can't wait to actually try this place and hopefully raise it a star or two.

S - l - o - w I'm ok with not too speedy. I'm sitting, drinking my coffee, expecting to wait for good food. A basic breakfast at 12:45 rook 45 minutes. I got to take one or two bites before I needed to leave. The hostess was a doll, but my waitress wasn't really pleasant, especially when I asked for the check because I was in a hurry. I think it should be possible to do a quick breakfast in less than an hour, but maybe not.
(2)Lori W.
We enjoy getting Greek omelets on the weekend because it's yummy and there typically isn't a wait for tables. The service is great, my coffee is always full. Blueberry pancakes are big and delicious. Low key homey breakfast spot for those who love weekend breakfast but loath scenester vibes.
(5)Micah B.
Mediocre out-of-the-box food. The lemon rice soup tastes just like Cambell's out of a can. Decor is hideous fake plants, dingy ceiling tiles and carpet so stained its nearly black in places. 3-4 hostesses? Seriously? The owners are just phoning it in apparently.

The Olympian is quite delicious though I would say the portion sizes are much too big! Of course for those that can control themselves (unlike me) I'm sure this won't be a problem. I ordered the souvlaki which was very nicely seasoned and quite tasty with the sauce and pita bread. It also came with a soup or salad and fries (but you could subsitute about 7 other things for the fries). The salad was a very simple salad of course but the soup was quite good. My boyfriend had the fish and chips (well fries, not chips) and he was quite happy as well. I tasted his fish and it was perfectly done - plus, who doesn't prefer cod over the other fish restaurants sometimes use? Our waitress was quite friendly. We didn't order any breakfast food but saw some that others ordered and they were quite large portion-wise and the breakfasts all seemed reasonably priced. Our meal came to just under $26 but since our entrees were two of the more expensive ones on the menu I'm sure you could easily eat here for under $20. There do seem to be a lot of regulars and they have a punch pass that after so many times you can get a free entree. I have no complaints about the decor/cleanliness as it was all very clean and well-kept. They do close at 3pm though so I'm afraid you can't try this place out for dinner.
(4)Vida A.
This place by far is the worst "Greek" food I have experienced which hasn't been a lot because we all know Greek's can cook. We came here for breakfast and I think I had the Greek omelette and it came out dry like rubber. Seems like this place has its regulars and they are compliant to what is being served to them but if you want tasty food, look elsewhere. Maybe lunch is better but I'm not willing to take a chance, other places to try!
(2)Jill H.
I eat here a few times a month. Great chewy pancakes and moist too. I'm addicted to their Greek salad, it has no lettuce, just chunks of cucumber tomato peppers tons of feta and light o/v dressing with oregano. The dolmas are homemade by the owner and are great. There are no loser dishes on this menu! a great family run place with very friendly servers. Huge pork chops and eggs. Great red style greek dressing.

Fantastic! Affordable. Delicious. Try their lemon rice soup! Its so wonderful. Also their greek scramble! Our favorite breakfast place in Utah and they are open on SUNDAYS!!!!
(5)Cee L.
they used to be a reliable breakfast spot but things have changed in the past few years. you walk in and are faced with a heavy, dark, out of place bar. the front area is cramped. the restaurant itself needs a facelift badly. the early 80s called and wants their decor back. the portions and quality of food have gone downhill.
(1)Maggie P.
Greek omlelet baby!! It's my favorite thing on the menu! The portions are more than plenty and the food is delish! Service is great! If you go on the weekend, you might be waiting but trust me, it's well worth the wait!

If you open you eyes and your taste buds, you will see that The Olympian is a really good restaurant. It fills it's own unique niche. To me, it qualifies as a true "diner", the definition of which is bound to incite debate. The Olympian has a welcoming atmosphere (think Sharon's Cafe), and a wealth of regulars (think Amber Restaurant). It has friendly waitresses (think The Other Place). It serves belly-busting breakfasts all day long (think Belgian Waffle), as well as satisfying lunch entrees (think Coachman's Dinner and Pancake House). It also has been around long enough to have legendary status (think Ruth's Diner). What The Olympian is not, is hip (think Blue Plate Diner). Like many other great diners, The Olympian has several Greek entrees on the menu. Among the French Toast, the BLT, and the Pot Roast, you will find the Greek Omelet, the Gyro Sandwich, The Greek Salad, and Dolmathes. Unfortunately, The Olympian recently stopped dinner service for some reason. The truth is, I love all the places listed above. But the Olympian is a Salt Lake icon, and holds a special place in my heart. I invite you to grab a stool and dig in.

Yet again a wonderful experience in Tony and Maria's restaurant. There is nothing like going someplace where they not only remember your name but they remember what you order. Maria's warm Greek tones "Hello! How are you do-ink? Let's get you some coffee" mixed with Georgia's fast service and the best damned pancakes in town - all make it worth it. This is a family business, not a chain. Support local families and go see Maria and Tony.

I use to love coming here in the past for brunch. And since then I have found places I enjoy more. But they offer things that know else does. Such as the Greek omelet. I love this with feta cheese, olives and lamb meat. I have never had bad services and the people are very nice. They are always busy for Saturday and Sunday brunch times. So if you go then expect a wait.

This was my first visit. And unfortunately might be my last. I arrived 15 minutes before close. It was 2:45 in the afternoon. As I was ordering my server told me I had 3 minutes to order before the kitchen closed. The table next to me was treated the same way and they had arrived before me. Bottom line it was rude. Businesses just don't do that. A sale is a sale. And it wasn't like I was a family of 10. The food may be good but unless you want to seem like you're an inconvenience you may want to consider going somewhere else. I'd recommend The Other Place restaurant for a similar menu, better tasting food, better hours and better service.

Sunday breakfast at a great greasy spoon! My friend and his daughter frequent this place enough that they have a favorite server and don't need a menu. I got the french toast with a side of hash brown, they got eggs and bacon. Really standard fare adn the portions were a really nice size. I should have gotten the half order of french toast but didn't and still at all of it..how I'm not sure! The hash browns were really crispy on the outside and still lightly golden..and it shouldn't be that hard but some places just overcook them and here it was really great. What I thought were double portions was again only one! two people can share a side! Great friendly service, great basic breakfast foods and really kid friendly. It was getting busy and we were never rushed and were on our way in no time!

Great breakfast spot. You would never guess it from the outlook that this is a hometown type breakfast place... at least that's why I know it as. They have a bunch of original creations for breakfast that my family loves. The great part is that with 3 kids making a racket (but enjoying the food), the staff remained extremely friendly with the kids. We don't hesitate to bring our entire family here for a hearty breakfast.
(5)John W.
Found this place by mistake and so glad we did! My girlfriend and I shared the bacon waffle and beefteki meals ( from a previous yelp recomendation) and was not disappointed. There was a generous portion of food left over and constant full cups of coffee. Service was also prompt and friendly! Great experience, great food, great price.
(5)Ken C.
We have eaten here several more times - mostly breakfast - and it is clearly consistent and delicious. The Greek breakfast is salty deliciousness and yes, they will give you a lot more tzatziki sauce. The pancakes are top-notch diner pancakes. The french bread is NOTHING SPECIAL. Don't waste your calories with that. Otherwise, definitely a new favorite!
(4)Ryan K.
I read yelp reviews before every meal so it's time I start writing my own reviews. I'm a self-described foodie, cook, and eater. I love breakfast and this was my first visit to the Olympian. Not sure why I hadn't tried it before. I ordered the Bifteki. It's ground beef mixed with Greek spices in the shape of a large flat burger and blackened on the flat top. It's served with eggs, hashbrowns, and choice of pancakes, toast, or English muff. Also a cuke/yogurt sauce for the meat. Lots of flavor. Service was fantastic with constant coffee and water refills. Cost $10 plus a $3 tip. Next time I'm trying the marinated pork.

We ski in Salt Lake City each winter for a month. We have been to many breakfast places, and this has become our favorite. The bacon is absolutely the best we have found. The eggs are done just right, the hash browns are excellent, the french toast is great. 5 out of 5 stars. Great service.
(5)Nicolas V.
Sweet service, but the food was just okay. I had the Dolmades (They don't spell it like that) - It was rather blend. Seems that the place is packed with regular.
